Opening a company in Albania may be more digital and structured than many foreigners expect. Here’s what the official process looks like.

Many foreigners assume company registration in Albania is messy by default.
Officially, the process is more digital and structured than that. The National Business Center says it operates as a one-stop shop for business registration and administration and offers more than 60 online services through the official platform.
The registration rules also clearly include foreigners. QKB’s official guidance says the application for initial registration of branches and representative offices of foreign companies can be made by the legal representative of the branch, the legal representative of the foreign company, or an authorized person.
It also includes services for simultaneous initial registration in the Commercial Register and the Register of Beneficial Owners, including for branches and representative offices of foreign companies.
This matters because the system already anticipates foreign participation. It is not a side door. It is part of the actual structure. QKB’s own business statistics show that limited liability companies are the most common structured form in Albania, with 53,669 entities, and that there are 375 branches of foreign companies already registered.
For Americans, that means the process is less about “Can I register?” and more about “What is the right structure, what documents do I need, and what setup mistakes can I avoid from day one?”
